Mike Press Cabernet 2005

Much of our fine wine is from smaller Boutique producers. This forum is about them, and hopefully, from them. Tasting notes, questions, answers, new releases ... wine lovers feel free to post, and wine producers too!

2005 Mike Press Cabernet $13.50 pb

This is a deep purple red in color, glowing with health. It has a classic Cabernet nose, full of dusty, slightly leafy Cabernet fruit, blackberry, cassis and dark berries mingled together with spices, a touch of vanilla, and hints of graphite. A complete nose showing class all the way. The palate does not disappoint. It has a raspberry and blackberry fruit all the way through the length of the palate, with a touch of pencil shavings oak, hints of tobacco and spice, and a lovely creamy mouthfeel. It has beautiful mid-palate fruit weight, and good length with a long fine tannins. It has structure and class and elegance, and it is delicious now, or will cellar beautifully in the medium term. Gavin, a friend of mine told me about these guys. Said he got on their mail list and got this for around $8 a bottle. What a buy... Haven't tried it myself yet but there is a bit of hype building on these guys so can't wait for the opportunity.
