2005 Grains of Paradise Shiraz -
"A traditional Barossa style" - I really liked this wine, reminded me of the Charlie of old... $48 at cellardoor

2005 Voices of Angels Shiraz -
A cool Climate Shiraz - I think overpriced at $48

Re Rose - Have a bottle in the fridge at all times

The Tasting at CMW was a bit rushed. I need to taste the wines again, especially the Grains of Paradise. This time taking some notes.

Tried these wines at the CD on the weekend....very good. The whole Charlie Melton range has shifted gears a little....all have a distinctly modern lean to them now and have been cleaned up and lost some of their rustic nuances.

I am interested in hearing peoples thoughts on Charlies pricing. Considering he now has three Shiraz around the fifty dollar mark.

While at the CD I noticed the 2005 Father in Law is now blended with Barossa fruit.

I did see Charlie on TV recently. The channel Nine show “Fresh” interviewed him while doing an piece on the Barossa.

Charles Melton wines have always been overpriced !I agree they are now a lot more modern in style that years gone by, but there are still plenty of Barossa Shiraz's well under the $40 mark that are well and truly up there !

Charlie needs a reality check IMHO.

There are as good if not better producers in the Barossa who are nowhere near his inflated prices.

Having said that Nine Popes is nearly always worth the bucks.

...and more interesting as he was one of the few producers that held his Oz prices down below UK prices.

I've said this before on another thread a while ago... he's dead set kidding himself.

I love his wines (I too pretty much always have a ROV in the fridge :))but as per the above comments, it ain't worth the money he's asking. the Nine popes is always a pretty good drop but his "run-of-the-mill" shiraz is about $45 IIRC...... Considering you can walk over the road to Rockfords and get ther Rifle range cab Sav and Rod & Spur for around $30, i know where I'll be spending my money.

And that Father in law, pretty average IMHO......
