Fraser Gallop wines

Postby Waiters Friend » Fri Oct 03, 2008 11:53 pm

G'day

Those who have seen my post a few weeks ago on the WA New Releases tasting might recall that my wine of the night went to Fraser Gallop for their 2007 Chardonnay. My partner in crime that night concurred. A close second was their 2005 Cabernet (90% Cabnenet Sauvignon, with 3 other Bordeaux varieties making up the balance). Both of these wines were <$25 a bottle, and would be comparable to other $40+ versions from Margaret River. Halliday apparently likes the Cabernet (93 points) but wasn't as complimentary about the Chardonnay (89 points - good, all the more for me  ) and this is all displayed on their website. Wines are currently made by Clive Otto (ex-Vasse Felix).

They also produce (at least) two other wines @$20/bottle - a 2008 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc and a Cabernet Merlot 2007. Quantities are small, quality is high, and they don't have a cellar door. However, and I am reluctant to tell you about this, in case the prices rise......do yourself a favour if bigger MR styles are also your style.

Cheers

Allan

I tried a FG Cabernet a couple of months ago (not sure if it was an 04/05) and I wasn't overly impressed. May have been the lunar cycle however, or maybe I was just not liking people called Fraser at the time.

I will have a look at the chardonnay. I'm such a rigid Victorian drinker that I rarely touch WA with my cheesy pole

I intend to try one of the 2005 Cabernets Friday night - we'll see whether I'm still as impressed as I was that night.

Cheers
