One of the best was @ Kabminye Wines in the Barossa. Not a huge menu, but spot on. Just shows what you can do with exceptional produce.

I had the most beutifully cooked Kangaroo, rare, so tender.

Great setting and even better wines.

Melting Pot in Adelaide last week. Sandor Palmai of Landhaus and Barr Vinum fame at the burners. Sheer bliss.

for a cheapie dinner - the abyssinian restaurant on henley beach rd, just down from thebbie theatre.

very cheap and massive serves. pretty sure they do byo - we had take away.

food was great & i love their 'bread'. it was like a massive crumpet. i so want the recipe for it - would love to make my own crumpets (i have a recipe but not 100% happy with it).

give it a burl!

It's not the poshest of places, but Wifey and I are finding ourselves at The Corner Bistrot (Leigh Street in the city) about once every three weeks at the moment. Simple bistro food, friendly service and a cosy atmosphere make up for a fun night. And as an added bonus, the Owner/Chef comes out mid meal and walks the room chatting with diners.

Better stem ware would be nice, and the wine list and could do with an overhaul, but there is enough French and Australian to keep one happy, and BYO is ok.

Probably my favourite 'anytime' place in Adelaide.

Oh, and I nearly died when I disocvered the Jasmins in the city offers takeaway. But that is a tale to be told at another time.

The newly renovated Hilton Hotel on the Cnr South Rd & Sir Donald Bradman Drive in Adelaide. The food & Beverage Manager Clinton is doing a fine job there.

If in Sydney, recently my wife and I really enjoyed Foveaux restaurant and bar in surry hills. The wine bar downstairs was great for pre and post drinks.

We had an awesome meal at Kabminye a year back, just truly delicious. A recent visit there was still good, just not great. Good place on a nice, clear day.

I'd always lump for Auge for good food and quality service. Atmosphere is great and whilst I've had the odd mixed experience with the food, I've never had a bad overall experience there.
Cheers

I have to go here eventually. More recently went to Vincenzo's Cucina Vera on Unley Road and I thought that it was great italian dining in the Auge mode. Would be interested to do a comparison as Vincenzo's was pretty flash. The head of house, Lara, is one of the best going around.

Went to Neil Perrys Rockpool in Melbourne for lunch yesterday and must say we had an awsome meal, the rockling was one of the best fish dishes I've had.
Been there three times now, always for the meat but the seafood now sits high on my list .
Only down side is I think it's well over priced, I know you get what you pay for, but it dosen't take long for the bill to explode.

Kudos to a pub restauarant in Norwood that shall remain nameless that last night allowed me to take home the unfinished portion of the bottle I purchased. Great customer service, great food and now I can have a crack at my Garnacha on night 2.

On a rtecent trip to Adelaide we ate at Cos.... Highky recommend. Paid a lot more for a lot worse!!

Also ate at the Barn and Salopian Inn in McLaren Vale. Both good but both different. Barn for those wishing to spend a bit less, Salopian for those with a bit more to splash out and looking for something more intimate.

Vin in Melbourn on High street in Prahan.

Bistro Moncur in paddington in the Woolhara hotel when you're in Sydney.

Off to La Guillotine tonight to eat richly and watch the rally cars go by. Onion soup, rabbit and creme brulee locked and loaded. Alwyas a good night out, the venue of my very first 'food hangover'.

The one restaurant I've ever been to though, where I would really, really love to be given the job of reworking the wine list. So much potential not being realised, in my humble opinion.

A pleasant evening last night at Soho, a venue known well to some members of this fourm. Baby Chicken, Duck Breast, the best mashed potato in town and cheese. All very simple, cooked to perfection. If you've not been there and live in Adelaide, check it out. 'Nuff said.

TN's on accompanying wines to come, including my first Wendouree experience.

Oh, and given my interest in butter, their truffle butter is devine. Worked well on the mashed potato, although I'm sure it was only really supposed to be for the bread.

I don't like to bang on too much about bad places - I firmly believe that a restaurant can be consistently good, yet have it's odd moments, and it could just be that your 'bad experience' is just one of those. A glitch, if you like.

However...

Last weekend we dined at a place called Growlers Cafe in Torquay. I would thoroughly suggest avoiding this place, unless you like being served plain, cafeteria food by distracted waitresses goggling the surfer boys and trying to turn the tables over whilst palming off largely indifferent local wine at exorbitant prices by the glass. Oh, and even though it's a 'cafe', you pay for the privilege - two mains and two glasses of wine, A$60. Just poor, I tell you. I don't think our big Saturday night out was just one of those 'off' nights.

Coming from Adelaide, I have a slightly higher expectation of what a cafe in a resort town like Torquay should offer. Particularly one that appeared to be so popular. Surely Torquayans deserve better.

If anyone is visiting Detroit, Michigan consider visiting Luciano's Restaurant, in the nearby suburb of Clinton TWP.

An Italian dinner treat awaits you with the ambience to match. The food is delicious and there is so much to eat, we had no inclination to order dessert.

Cheers,
